March 1977 Public meeting, sponosored by the Bloomsburg Branch of AAUW, held to discuss solid waste crisis with the closing of the Columbia County Landfill
June 1977 Solid Waste Task Force concurred that "recycling at the source - at each person's home - can be a success".   Joined with Explorer Post 21 who already collected newspaper.
August 1977 Curbside Collections began
May 1978 Volunteer Recycling (VRI) was incorporated.
June 1982 Fire destroys recycling site at the railroad station. Weis Markets donates building and the Bloomsburg Area Industrial Development Authority (BAIDA) donates land for new facility.  The Pennsylvania Department of Resources (DER) approves grant funding for building relocation and equipment.
November 1982 Operations begin at new facility - 901 Patterson Drive.
January 1983 VRI dedicates building.
June 1983 Bloomsburg mandates residential curbside recycling (five years before the State mandate, Act 101) fulfilling an agreement with DER.
June 1988 Compost Site opens.
October 1990 VRI dissolved. Town assumes responsibility for recycling programs and operation of the Recycling Center.
December 2001 Recycling Center processes over 3,000 tons of material - more than twice that was processed in 1991.
August 2002 "Twenty-Five Years of Curbside Collection!"
August 2007 "Thirty Years of Recycling!"
