COURSE DESCRIPTION

Level 1 (9-36 months)

The purpose of this class is to acquaint the child with the water and swimming.  Safety will be encouraged in and around the pool.  A responsible adult must enter the water with the child.  Be prepared to sing songs, play games and have fun.

Level 2

Children in this level should show readiness to swim unaccompanied by an adult.  They should be willing to try the following skills:  hold head underwater for 10 seconds, float on back and stomach, jump into water feet first and swim the width of the pool.

Level 3

Children will be learning the following swimming strokes: front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke.  Survival swimming as well as treading and floating techniques will be introduced.  Level 3 swimmers will also attempt the front dive into deep water.

Level 4

Children will be developing their sidestroke and breaststroke as well as refining Level 3 skills.   They will be able to demonstrate all five strokes while swimming 200-500 yards of the pool.  (8-20 laps) Level 4 swimmers will also be introduced to basic water safety techniques, underwater swimming and competitive diving.
