 Planning Commission: Mission Statement and
Job Description of Responsibilities
as defined by Town of Bloomsburg Ordinance NO. 612

Mission Statement:

To govern and maintain all codes created by the Town Comprehensive Plan, and to assist in all matters which may alter the Town or its Plan.

Description of Membership, and the Means of Appointment:

The Planning Commission consists of 7 members who are residents of the Town of Bloomsburg. Each member shall serve terms of 4 years, and do not receive compensation as a result of membership. The Commission is advised by the Town Engineer, or an engineer appointed by the Town Council.

Description of the Powers and Activities of the Planning Commission:

Members of the Planning Commission have the following responsibilities and powers:

1. The power to review all proposed changes to any street, public building, park, or public grounds.
2. Power to make recommendations concerning all proposed changes of the Town Plan, and to disapprove of any
ordinance which does not, in the opinion of the said Commission, uphold the Town Plan. However, such a disapproval does not provide the power of a veto.
3. With the approval of Council, The power to appropriate money to be used to publish any maps of the Town, sections of the Town, or any area outside the Town within a three mile radius.
4. Power to advise Council on all matters concerning the Town Plan, and any changes to the previously mentioned Plan.
5. To advise any public authority, corporation, or individual as to the location of a structure, or any alterations which have been planned to take place.
6. Power to review and then approve or disapprove all plans, maps, or reports concerning the Town, which are intended to be used for public use.
